You love your pet as a member of your family, but what might happen to your dog or cat if you couldn’t be there for him or her? Unfortunately, many pets from senior owners end up at North Carolina animal shelters after their owners either become ill or pass away.
November is National Family Caregivers month and for the past 12 years the Triad Retirement Living Association (TRLA) has held an annual luncheon to honor caregivers for their selfless service in providing compassionate care for seniors.
“Everybody has a story,” says author Dene Hellman. “This is a basic reality of life. If it’s falling off a chair, breaking your hip and going to rehab for six weeks, that’s part of my story; but there is no one who is not worth writing about.”

Brenda Canady decided to start a new group where widows could meet for lunch. The group grew and asked Brenda to arrange dinner dates, too. The friendships formed in the group helped to lessen the loneliness that everyone was feeling.
