“Can’t repeat the past? Why, of course you can!” F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby”

Oh, how accurate was Mr. F. Scott Fitzgerald!

The year was 1919 and the Greensboro community had just built one of North Carolina’s showcase hotels, the O. Henry. This was about the same time of the setting of The Great Gatsby and the Harlem Renaissance. America was experiencing a new style and class – the social life and music in America was hot and swinging!

Can’t repeat the past?
Why of course you can!

Today the O. Henry has been painstakingly remodeled, giving rise to all of the class and style of the past. With a blend of the Gatsby style and the excitement of the Harlem Renaissance music, entertainment in Greensboro has embraced the luxury of a past era. Taking their lead from the visionary Dennis Quaintance, architects/curators Victoria and Neill Clegg has recreated the Gatsby-like entertainment destination at the O. Henry. From the impeccable service of the front desk staff, to the professional servers who will keep your wine glass topped, to the amazing culinary cuisine, the smiles and service is unmatched in the Triad.

You will feel like you’ve stepped back into the Gatsby Era when you enter the O. Henry. Cocktails and Jazz Thursday nights from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m feature artists Dave Fox (piano), Neill Clegg (saxophone, clarinet and flute) and Matt Kendrick (double bass). Guest vocalists who cover the Great American Songbook and jazz classics, including swing and modal classics from the late ‘50s to early ‘60s, as well as Brazilian jazz from the early ‘60s, will keep you entertained. On select Saturdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. you can enjoy their talents, along with those of a rotating roster of extraordinary jazz vocalists, as they focus on the great American Songbook. And the cover for both events is free!

I recommend you arrive early, grab a seat, order your wine and delicious menu offerings, and settle back to experience the new Triad Musical Renaissance at the O’Henry!
