Magnificent seniors social club Serves Seniors While Having Fun!
By Judie Holcomb-Pack
Among the many organizations that serve seniors, the Magnificent Seniors Social Club does more than feed the body, it feeds the soul by providing fun social interaction and activities for seniors.
Founded by H. Leo Adams in 2013, the group’s inaugural event was a Meet and Greet party, which attracted its first members. It is now a 501(c)(7) non-profit organization that is growing in numbers every month. In 2014 they held their first Sweetheart Ball as a fundraiser to support Hospice Palliative Care of Forsyth County. With that momentum, they continued to serve by adopting a family and providing school clothing and supplies for the children. They also proudly marched in the Winston-Salem State University Homecoming Parade!
Their mission is to provide assistance to seniors in need and to serve others.
They do this through their commitment to demonstrating love, charity and improving the condition of humankind within their community. Recently, they sponsored five children from the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club to attend camp for a week. They are also provided school uniforms for several area schools.
The club has several ambitious future plans, including a Fall Fashion Show which will be held on October 21 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Carolina Cruiser Building at 3810 N. Glenn Avenue in Winston-Salem. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They are looking for vendors for the event to showcase their business to attendees.
They also plan to provide Thanksgiving baskets to needy families through the Forsyth County Department of Social Services and to sponsor several children by providing Christmas gifts. All these projects are possible through their various fundraisers, including a big fundraiser to be held in March 2018, the details of which they will unveil soon!
This amazing group of service – and fun – oriented seniors is making its mark in our community. As Cheryl Mouzon says, “We might be small in number, but we have a big heart!”
