Sports, Literary Competitions Open to Seniors
Several opportunities are coming up for writers to enter short stories, poems, essays, and memoirs to compete for awards. The SilverArts competition, part of the Piedmont Senior Games through the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks, and the Second Spring Arts Festival are for seniors only.
The Piedmont Games/SilverArts Kickoff will be held on Friday, January 13, at 10 a.m. at Hanes Hosiery Recreation Center, 501 Reynolds Blvd. Senior Games/SilverArts are for seniors age 55 or older. Information will be available about how to enter both the Senior Games, which include a variety of sports from golf and swimming to cheerleading, and SilverArts, which includes art and handcrafted items, and literary submissions such as short stories, poems, essays, and memoirs. The local games are held in the spring and winners then advance to the State Senior Games in the fall.
