You can make a difference in your community by volunteering with Red Cross!
One day in March 2017, Cynthia Shipp was sitting at home when she decided to go out and get a library card. She chose the Southside Branch of the Forsyth County Public Library because she had grown up in the area and graduated from Parkland High School.
The room was buzzing with conversation. Volunteers with The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem had gathered for a late-summer ice cream social and a time to connect with each other. As Hurricane Florence headed for the Triad, stories about standing in line at the grocery store were overheard, along with expressions of concern for neighbors down east.
As 2018 comes to a close, the single thing all political pundits, social scientists and ordinary Americans can agree on is that we are a divided people. With the holidays approaching we recognize our relatives and friends – who don’t necessarily get along splendidly even in the best of times – are going to be bringing lots of anxiety, uncertainty and aggravation with them as they gather. Accordingly, here are a few suggestions meant to promote peace, at least at the supper table.
